New Delhi: Australia's path to the Champions Trophy semifinals was sealed as their match against Afghanistan in Lahore was washed out due to rain. The crucial clash between the two teams was abandoned with Australia looking strong in their pursuit of 273 runs, having reached 109/1 in 12.5 overs. Travis Head's explosive 59 off 40 balls put Australia in a commanding position before the rain disrupted play.

In Group B, Afghanistan, Australia, and South Africa are still competing for a spot in the semifinals, while England were eliminated from the tournament on Wednesday after their defeat to Afghanistan. This loss prompted captain Jos Buttler to resign on Friday, just one day before their final match against South Africa.

Now, Afghanistan must wait for the outcome of the England vs South Africa match. Both Afghanistan and South Africa will have three points, but the Proteas boast a significantly better run rate. For Afghanistan to advance, they need England to defeat South Africa by a margin of 207 runs. If South Africa wins, Temba Bavuma’s team will secure their spot in the final.
