New Delhi: The fate of MS Dhoni with the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 is expected to be determined later this month, as reports suggest that the two-time World Cup-winning former Indian captain will meet with the five-time champions in Mumbai in mid-October. Dhoni's future with CSK has consistently been a subject of speculation in the years leading up to the end of each season and the approaching new season, with fans eagerly awaiting news of his decision.
Although Dhoni played with a knee injury in IPL 2023 and led the team to the title, the 43-year-old stepped down from captaincy in the following season, passing on the baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad. CSK finished fifth in the table and the Dhoni discussion continued.
Based on a Cricbuzz report, Dhoni is set to meet the CSK officials soon and is set to convey his decision regarding the upcoming season. The former Indian wicketkeeper-batter had always wished to play his final game in front of his home fans in Chepauk.
A farewell game for Dhoni in IPL 2025 might also be on the agenda during the meeting. He was recently in the United States and returned to India a few days ago. With the BCCI announcing the IPL 2025 retention rules, Dhoni will be go under the uncapped category for a price of Rs 4 crore, if retained.
The new BCCI directive says, “A capped Indian player will become uncapped, if the player has in the last five calendar years preceding the year in which the relevant Season is held, not played in the starting XI in International Cricket (Test match, ODI, Twenty20 International) or does not have a Central Contract with BCCI. This will be applicable for Indian Players only.”
