New Delhi: Indian cricket sensation Rishabh Pant lived up to expectations as he emerged as the highest-paid player in the Indian Premier League auction. Lucknow Super Giants secured his services for a whopping Rs 27 crores. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer, who captained KKR to victory this year, was snatched up by Punjab Kings for Rs 26 crores 75 lakhs.
There was fierce competition between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow for Pant. Delhi Capitals first used the Right to Match at Rs 20 crore 75 lakh, but when Lucknow placed the last bid of Rs 27 crore, the Delhi team backed off. Iyer was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 26 crore 75 lakh. There was a competition between Delhi Capitals and Punjab for Iyer for a long time, but in the end, Punjab won. Iyer broke the record of Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc, who was bought by KKR for Rs 24 crore 75 lakh in the last auction.
