Alphonso Davies Extends Contract with Bayern Munich Until 2030, Rejecting Real Madrid

On Tuesday, Bayern Munich confirmed that Alphonso Davies, the Canada captain, has extended his contract with the club until 2030, putting an end to speculation surrounding a possible move to Real Madrid. The talented wing-back, who won five Bundesliga titles and the Champions League with Bayern, was linked with the Spanish giants as his contract was set to end this summer. However, Davies will now remain at Bayern for another five years after signing a new deal. The 24-year-old joined the club back in 2019 from MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps, and has since become a key player for the German side.

In a statement, Davies said he had "already achieved a lot here, but there's more to come," adding "I'm looking forward to another five years together."

The deal comes one day after Bayern also handed captain and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, 38, a one-year extension to keep him at the club until 2026.

German media reported on Tuesday several other contract extensions are in the works for Bayern, including Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich.

Davies is currently out with a hamstring injury picked up in January and is not expected to return until late February.

He has played 220 games for Bayern, primarily as a wing-back but also in the forwards, and has scored 12 goals and laid on 34 assists.

Bayern sporting director Cristoph Freund said the deal "shows Bayern's status in international football and that Alphonso has found his sporting home in Munich."
