Lewis Morgan of the Red Bulls clinches MLS comeback award

The 28-year-old Scottish international player missed a total of 28 matches in 2023 due to hip injuries and had to undergo hip surgery. Reports from MLS.com stated that his chances of returning to his peak level of performance were estimated to be 25 percent or lower.

But in 2024, he had 13 goals and seven assists in 29 contests, leading the club in goals and finishing second in assists. His contributions to 20 goals were the most by a Red Bulls player since 2018.

He is the first player in franchise history to win the award and the first Red Bulls player to win an MLS Year-End Award since 2018, when Aaron Long was named MLS Defender of the Year.

Morgan made five caps this year for Scotland after a six-year absence from national team play.

Minnesota United's Robin Lod was second in voting, followed by Maxi Moralez of the New York City FC.
