The Singaporean team, led by Balestier Khalsa coach Peter de Roo, equalised five minutes later through BG Tampines Rovers Faris Ramli to set up a grandstand finish, but Selangor retook the lead through Cape Verdean winger Alvin Fortes’ penalty a minute into stoppage time to seal the victory.
It was the first time the competition has been held since 2019, when Selangor Selection narrowly defeated Singapore Selection 1-0.
Earlier, a Selangor Veterans team beat their counterparts from Singapore 2-1, with Zainal Abidin Hassan and Asmawi Bakiri striking first to hand the Malaysians a 2-0 lead, before Geylang International coach Noor Ali pulled a goal back two minutes into stoppage time.
